Questions raised over committee’s suggestion

Update : 12 Jul 2015, 07:28 PM

The Tigers’ recent performance against South Africa has paved the way for the Bangladesh Cricket Board to enquire for solutions from the technical committee, comprising six former national cricketers.

However, the suggestion from the technical committee, containing ASM Faruque, Ishtiaque Ahmed, Jahangir Shah Badshah, Shafiqul Haque Heera, Mainul Haque and Athar Ali Khan has raised quite a few eyebrows. The committee apparently suggested that Anamul Haque, Rubel Hossain and Arafat Sunny should all have been included in the playing XI for the second and penultimate ODI yesterday.

Earlier Saturday, BCB boss Nazmul Hasan sought reasons behind the Tigers’ disappointing displays recently from the committee. It was learned from sources that the six-member panel wanted drastic changes, which, at the moment, makes no sense whatsoever.

Just like the other Test-playing nations, the BCB also included their best and knowledgeable former national stars in the committee and honestly, there is no doubt with regards to the skills and experience of all the six members of the committee but the way they are going about their responsibility has given birth to many questions.

Legendary cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman are currently working for the Board of Control for Cricket in India and their knowledge is surely working as the guideline for Indian cricket.

But with all due respect to the six members, they should try to keep the context of modern cricket in mind when they forward any suggestions.

According to a former cricketer turned organiser requesting anonymity, the technical committee members are looking for quick solutions rather than finding out the main problems.

“Liton Kumar and Sabbir Rahman are currently the country’s most promising cricketers but the committee is suggesting dropping them in order to achieve success. It looks like they have no knowledge on local cricket. They wanted to include all the three members sitting on the bench. It would have been the same if there were five cricketers on the bench,” he said.
