Dhoni accepts blame for series defeat

Update : 21 Jun 2015, 08:05 PM

It has been a tough few days for India ODI captain MS Dhoni. And when he walked into the post-match press conference yesterday following the thumping six-wicket loss against Bangladesh, the disappointment on his face was evident for all to see.

The 33-year old accepted all the responsibility for the series defeat and informed that he will not hesitate to quit from the role of captaincy if he is not required. Dhoni added that the cricketers should also take responsibility rather than blaming the support staff.

“I am in the line of fire and I am ready to take all the responsibilities of the side and if the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) wants me to step down from captaincy which would help the Indian side to improve, I am definitely going to do that,” said Dhoni, with a smile, before adding, “It looks like nobody likes me to be in this position.”

Dhoni did not forget to praise the new-look Tigers and informed that it’s a different team compared to the past. Dhoni said the Tigers have improved a lot and also praised young pacer Mustafizur Rahman who bagged six wickets and was instrumental behind yesterday’s victory.

“He is a good bowler who is exploiting the conditions well. His hand speed is good and there is no difference between the slower one and normal delivery. The slower one travels to the keeper which does not happen in the case of other pacers,” he added.
