Sponsors bidding at noon

Update : 19 May 2015, 06:42 PM

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) received six technical proposals yesterday for the sponsorship rights for the Bangladesh national cricket team for next two years. The companies participating in the bid will have to submit their financial proposals today before the BCB starts the bidding process at noon.

“Tuesday was the deadline for the technical proposal. We will take financial offers tomorrow (today). There have been six offers so far. It is for next two years,” confirmed BCB chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury yesterday.

Taka 300 million has been set as the base price for the bidding. According to sources most of the bidders hold experience of participating in earlier BCB biddings for the Bangladesh-Pakistan series in April and May this year.

Top of Mind, a media planning company, was awarded the national team sponsorship last month for Bangladesh’s home series against Pakistan. The winning quote was reportedly more than Taka 30 million.

Top of Mind and Grameenphone, the team sponsor for the eight years before Sahara, were the two highest bidders during this tender but had to bid again as they didn’t quote a price favoured by the BCB.

BCB’s decision to bid the team sponsorship deal came in after it terminated a four-year contract with Sahara India Parivar. The termination saw the contract cut short by 15 months.

Their four-year deal with Sahara, which included branding rights for the national team and the national cricket academy, title sponsorship and in-stadia sponsorship for 2012-13, was worth USD 14 million.
