Imranur up for 100m sprint at Paris Olympics

Imranur Rahman is the 2nd sportsperson from the country to receive wildcard for Paris Olympics so far after Rabiul Islam in shooting

Country’s fastest sprinter Imranur Rahman has been selected to compete at the Paris Olympics 2024, the organizers confirmed Bangladesh Athletics Federation less than a month before the official opening ceremony in France’s capital.

A federation official told Dhaka Tribune that they were given a single quota by World Athletics for wildcard earlier.

Imranur’s name came first and forwarded for International Olympic Council’s approval which was replied in an email Monday, said the BAF official adding that Imranur would compete in 100m sprint.

The expatriate athlete is currently training in England where he was born and raised before representing Bangladesh in last two years.

He earned Bangladesh unprecedented success in international arena including a historic gold medal in 60m sprint at Asian indoor competition.

Imranur is the second sportsperson from the country to receive wildcard for Paris Olympics so far after Rabiul Islam in shooting.

Only Sagor Islam from archery ensured direct qualification to 2024 Olympics which is scheduled to get underway on July 26.
