Jahir wins silver in 400m sprint at Asian Indoor Athletics

Earlier, Imranur, the fastest man of Bangladesh on the last 3 occasions, reached the semi-final in his favorite 60m sprint

Mohammad Jahir Rayhan brought laurel for Bangladesh by clinching a first ever silver medal in the 400-meter sprint of the Asian Indoor Athletics in Tehran Sunday night.

He is the second Bangladeshi medalist after gold winner Imranur Rahman, who ended the country’s wait for a medal in the Asian meet.

Jahir finished with a timing of 48.1 seconds.

Earlier, Imranur, the fastest man of Bangladesh on the last three occasions, reached the semi-final in his favorite 60m sprint.

The 30-year old England-based Bangladesh origin athlete Imranur, current gold medalist of the Asian 60m sprint after winning in the 10th edition in Astana, Kazakhstan in February last year, competed in the event's heats No 3 and emerged second after clocking 6.62 seconds.

He was ranked fourth in overall heats to reach the semis.

The event's semi-finals are scheduled to be held later Sunday night while the final is billed for Monday.

Another Bangladeshi athlete Rakibul Hasan also took part in heats No 4 and ended fourth with a timing of 6.87 seconds.

Mahfuzur Rahman (high jump) and Shirin Akhter (60m sprint) are also representing Bangladesh in the competition.
