Imranur Rahman and Shirin Akhter, the fastest sprinters of Bangladesh, retained their title after securing first spot in the men’s and women’s 100m sprint respectively at the National Athletics Championship 2024 Friday afternoon.
The men’s 100m event was the first contest on the newly installed athletic track of Bangabandhu National Stadium, and also Imranur’s debut at the venue after the UK-based Bangladeshi athlete started representing the red and green flag.
Imranur, playing for the Army team, clocked 10.36s.
It was his best timing in the national championship after taking 10.49s and 10.50s in the last two competitions.
In the National Summer Athletics, his best was 10.29s recorded in 2022.
“I’m content with the timing. It’s my first race in this 100m season,” Imranur told reporters after the race, praising the "nice surface" of the new track.
Shirin was also smiling and said she was happy after becoming the fastest woman of the country for the 15th time as she clocked 12.11s to complete the run.
