Sprinter Imranur Rahman has been in the limelight since he made debut in Bangladesh athletics and grabbed the sensational gold at the ongoing Asian Indoor Athletics Championships.
What he achieved in Kazakhstan was however, more than the expectation put on him earlier.
Imranur couldn't also believe himself as he broke his personal best timing twice in two consecutive races to summit the podium no Bangladeshi ever scaled before.
The gold came from a 60m sprint event which doesn't exist in national competition of Bangladesh athletics where the lowest-distance run is 100m.
But Imranur has not only proved his supremacy in the 100m history of Bangladesh but also in 60m race because of his upbringing.
He grew up in Sheffield, UK to Bangladeshi parents whose hometown is in Sylhet's Jalalpur area in Dakhin Surma.
He studied in a local school in Sheffield before admitting to University of Birmingham where he used to play football before taking athletics seriously at the age of 19.
From his top 10 personal best in world athletics website, it appears that nine of them came from 60m event since 2017, the performance graph always improving afterwards.
He visited Bangladesh at the age of three but it was in 2021 when he came here for a different vision which eventually led to glory for the red and green.
He started representing the country of his blood the following year, broke all his previous best as well as set new records in the country's athletics annals.
The 29-year old wants to give more time to athletics in order to flourish further but he currently has no choice as he has to maintain a full-time job besides training and gym at his own cost.
