Sprinter Imranur makes history by winning gold at Asian Indoor Athletics

The England-born athlete clocked 6.59 seconds to touch the finishing line in the final Saturday

Imranur Rahman, the fastest man of Bangladesh, made history by winning the gold in the men's 60m sprint at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2023 which is taking place in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The England-born athlete clocked 6.59 seconds to touch the finishing line in the final Saturday which is also his personal best.

He became the first Bangladeshi to win a gold medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship whose 10th edition is currently going on.

Imranur took 6.61 seconds to finish the semi-final race on the same day to secure the second spot only on photo-finish. 

His previous personal best timing was 6.64 seconds during the World Indoor Athletics held in Belgrade last year.

Earlier on the same day, the 29-year-old finished top in his respective heat in 6.70 seconds. 

Shirin Akter, Bangladesh's fastest woman, had seen the exit door from the heats after clocking 7.93 seconds.
