Former Bangladesh national cricket team batsman and national side’s logistics manager Nafees Iqbal was airlifted to Dhaka from Chittagong as he suffered a stroke Friday.
Bangladesh Cricket Board's chief physician Debashis Chowdhury confirmed the news to media Friday afternoon.
Nafees suffered from a minor stroke, he said.
Later, he was airlifted to Dhaka from Chittagong and will be admitted to the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Dhaka.
Nafees, 39, is the elder brother of Tamim Iqbal and the nephew of former Bangladesh captain Akram Khan.
He played 11 Tests and 16 One Day Internationals for Bangladesh between 2003 and 2006.
Nafees represented the Bangladesh Under-19 team in youth level and captained the national side at the 2002 U-19 World Cup.
He came to limelight and prominence after scoring a hundred (118 off 168 balls) for Bangladesh A against the touring England team in 2003–04.
His only Test century came in January 2005, one which aided Bangladesh towards their first-ever series victory, 1–0 against Zimbabwe.
Nafees played his ODI against Australia in 2005 where the Tigers famously beat the Aussies.
His last Test match was against Sri Lanka in Bogra in 2006.
Nafees had been the national team manager since 2022 before he became the national team logistics manager.
