After stealing the show with a brace in the final and winning the Saff Championship for the first time, Bangladesh Women’s Football Team forward Krishna Rani Sarkar's mother has said people, who once criticized her daughter's performance, were now congratulating her.

Krishna's mother Namita Rani Sarkar, from Tangail’s Gopalpur upazila,  said: “People who used to mock my daughter's football performance now come to congratulate me. I cannot express this feeling in words.”

She told Dhaka Tribune: “I was excited the whole day, but could not watch the match due to power cuts in the area. I was informed my daughter won the game later.”

She also asked countrymen to pray for Krishna, and Bangladesh women’s team, so they keep making history.

Bangladesh women’s football team won the Saff Championship for the first time after beating Nepal 3-1 at Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu.

Krishna Rani Sarkar scored two goals while Shamsunnahar Jr netted once for the women in red and green who erased the bitter memories of their only ever Saff final appearance in 2016 against India.

Unbeaten champions Bangladesh conceded only once in the tournament – Nepal’s consolation goal netted by Anita Basnet – and scored 23 goals.

Moments after coming on as a substitute for the injured Sirat Jahan Shopna in the 10th minute, Shamsunnahar Jr gave Bangladesh the lead in the 13th minute.
