Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked country’s sportspersons to get prepare for the Olympics when she virtually opened the 9th Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games at the Bangabandhu National Stadium amid a colourful programme on Thursday. 

A total of 5,300 athletes from 31 different sports discipline will vie for 1,271 medals in 378 events. Bangladesh Olympic Association, the organizers of the game has taken the games across the country as it takes place across 29 separate venues, which included seven divisional venues, informed a press release of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games Media Cell. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked the organizers for holding the games to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the country and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “My father loved sports, my brothers were players, the players are the ambassadors of the country in the international arena, I thank the organizers for hosting the games commemorating two big occasions, however I also hope the athletes and all the concerned remain aware and take preventive measures against Covid 19. I believe this kind of efforts help the athletes to look forward to enhance the image of the country, I wish all the best for a successful games” said the PM.
