Liton eager to shine in DPL

Update : 14 Apr 2016, 09:42 PM
Having ended as the second highest run-scorer in the last season of the Dhaka Premier League, Liton Kumar Das deservedly earned his maiden call-up to the national side.
Stumper-batsman Liton had scored an impressive 686 runs for Abahani Limited and the national selection panel thought it was the opportune moment to give Liton his international bow, that too in all three formats of the game. His glory however, proved to be short-lived. Liton made his last Bangladesh appearance in the ODI and Twenty20 international series’ against Zimbabwe at home last November. Thereafter, he sat out the home T20I series against Zimbabwe last January and the Asia Cup T20 and the World T20. The national discard though is not short of determination as far as scripting a comeback to the national fold is concerned. Despite being out of the reckoning for almost six months now, Liton believes scoring big in domestic cricket will enable him to regain his place in the Tigers set-up. “The captain and the coach want me to make a comeback and I also want the same thing. Performance is the only key to that. I will have to perform no matter which team I play for. At the moment, I am not concentrating on any particular version of cricket but the premier league itself,” Liton told the media at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday. Keeping that in mind, it is imperative for Liton to play a stellar role, at least with the bat, in the upcoming DPL, starting from April 22. In the players’ draft held recently, Abahani Limited retained Liton and the wicketkeeper-batsman believes he is a lucky lad to be a part of the Dhanmondi-based club for the second season in a row. “I feel lucky, to be honest, because of getting the chance to play for a big team. I also wanted to be a part of this team and my wish came true. I had performed well for Abahani last season,” Liton explained. Liton went on to inform that he has chalked out some plans for the premier league but does not want to reveal them as yet. He added that he misses the national dressing room and thinks a good campaign in the 2015-16 DPL will help him to forget the dreadful days of the recent past and bring him back to national reckoning.
