Khaled describes his video, No Standard Film, to portray that “it is impossible to live or get anything done without the help of international standards. Be it operating a complex modern digital video camera, or simply sketching an image with a pencil, standards are required for things to function properly and smoothly.” Islam is a creative director and strategist who also teaches advertising at a university. He uses pencil-drawn sketches in the video to describe how the illustrator aimed to create a video without the use of a camera to portray a world without any international standards. As the film progresses, the illustrator realises that his pencil, too, conforms to international standards. Showing that he couldn’t make the video without using standards, the filmmaker shows the audience that almost everything we do is built on international standards. It is a high level collaboration between the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Under the banner, the three organisations preserve their common interests in strengthening and advancing the voluntary consensus-based international standards system.
