Update : 01 Oct 2026, 06:50 PM

The “Game of Thrones” universe is heading to the big screen with “Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest”, scheduled to hit cinemas on June 6, 2029.

Warner Bros has announced the theatrical release date, with Owen Harris attached to direct and Beau W illimon writing the screenplay.

Plot details remain under wraps, but the film is expected to follow Aegon I Targaryen, also known as Aegon the Conqueror, and his campaign to conquer and unite the Seven Kingdoms.

Set roughly 300 years before the events of the original “Game of Thrones”, the film will explore the establishment of the Targaryen dynasty in Westeros. No casting has yet been announced for the role of Aegon.

Harris, who directed three episodes of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, is also an executive producer on the series. His other television credits include “Black Mirror”, “The Twilight Zone” and “Brave New World”.

Willimon is best known as the creator and showrunner of “House of Cards” and for his work on “Andor”.

The original “Game of Thrones”, based on George RR Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels, ran for eight seasons from 2011 to 2019.

The franchise has since expanded with prequel projects including “House of the Dragon” and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”.
