Jaltaranga, a Dhaka-based cultural organization, organized a musical evening titled “Coffee House-er Adday" at the Ishfendiyar Zahed Hasan Auditorium of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro in Dhaka on August 28, 2026.
Three members of one family performed at the event: Zakir Hossain Tapan; his wife, Tanvira Ashraf Shyama; and their son,Shahrivar Hossain, also known as Rivu. Hossain accompanied his parents on guitar.
The program opened with a group rendition of Kazi Nazrul Islam's "Joy Hok Joy Hok" and Rabindranath Tagore's "Alokero Ei Jhornadharay."
The artists then performed a selection of songs from earlier decades of Bengali music, including "Joy Hok Joy Hok Shantir Joy Hok," "Keno Dure Thako Shudhu," "Shono Kono Ekdin," "O Mor Moyna Go," "Ogo Mor Modhumita," "Mone Pore Ruby Roy," "O Keno Eto Sundori Holo," and "Coffee House-er Sei Adda-ta Aaj Aar Nei."
The main program began at 7pm, with the auditorium filled to capacity. Audience members said such programs were necessary to keep the tradition alive and called for similar events to be held regularly.
Tapan said, "Jaltaranga is always committed to introducing the golden era of Bengali music to new listeners."
