The makers of Ramayana unveiled the film’s Rama teaser on April 2, 2026, coinciding with Hanuman Jayanti, offering the first official glimpse of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama.
The teaser highlights Kapoor’s transformation after months of preparation and has drawn early praise for its scale and immersive visuals. The film is being mounted as a large-format mythological drama with a strong emotional core.
Ramayana brings together a cast drawn from across industries. Sai Pallavi plays Sita, Yash appears as Ravana and Sunny Deol takes on the role of Hanuman. The ensemble also includes Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal and Vivek Oberoi. Arun Govil, who is remembered for playing Rama on television, will appear as King Dasharath.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film has been structured in two parts to cover the story in full. The first chapter is expected to focus on Rama’s early life, his marriage and exile, while the second part will move into Sita’s abduction and the battle in Lanka.
Backed by Prime Focus Studios, DNEG and Monster Mind Creations, the project also brings together Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman for the soundtrack, a pairing that underlines its global ambitions.
The Rama teaser has received a U certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, making it suitable for viewers of all ages. The makers are positioning the film as a family-friendly cultural spectacle that retains its spiritual core.
Ramayana is reportedly being made on a budget of around INR 1,600 crore across both parts. Industry estimates suggest the total cost could rise further by the time the second installment is completed, placing it among the most expensive film franchises in Indian cinema.
The first part of Ramayana is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release in Diwali 2026, with Ramayana: Part 2 set for Diwali 2027.
