What was shaping up to be one of Eid’s most explosive box office showdowns has suddenly lost its biggest contender.
Yash’s much-anticipated action spectacle Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups has pulled out of the Eid-ul-Fitr race, stepping away from its scheduled March 19 release and leaving Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 with a clearer path to dominate theatres.
The decision, confirmed by the production team, comes amid ongoing unrest in West Asia that has disrupted the film’s carefully mapped global rollout. Designed as a pan-India blockbuster with a strong international push, Toxic targets markets across the Middle East, Europe and North America — territories now forcing the makers to rethink their release strategy.
Instead, the dark fantasy action drama will now arrive worldwide on June 4.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas and co-starring Kiara Advani, Toxic promises a larger-than-life cinematic spectacle. Shot on advanced digital cinema cameras and enhanced with cutting-edge colour grading and Dolby Atmos sound design, the film boasts high-octane action, lavish VFX and a sprawling international production scale.
Sources say the budget is equally grand, with several international technicians involved in bringing its shadowy, stylized world to life.
Meanwhile, the battlefield now belongs to Dhurandhar 2. The action-drama sequel, directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh, remains firmly locked into its Eid release slot.
Industry observers believe the film could now enjoy a rare solo run at the festive box office — a major advantage given the massive success of its predecessor.
The teaser for Dhurandhar 2, originally scheduled for March 3, was postponed due to a lunar eclipse and is now expected to drop on March 5 or 6.
As for Toxic, whispers of a grand promotional event planned for March 8 still linger — though whether the celebration will go ahead remains uncertain.
One clash has faded. Another chapter awaits.
