Director Mahde Hasan's debut film “Sand City” has secured worldwide sales deal in collaboration with a Bangkok based sales company Diversion. The film headed to have its world premiere at the Proxima Competition at the 2025 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, one of the most prestigious festivals in Eastern Europe.
The film follows two distinct characters, Emma and Hasan. One day while cleaning the cat litter Emma finds a severed finger while Hasan steals sand from a washing plant to craft glass at home. The two characters are intertwined by sand hence the name “Sand City”.
The character of Emma is played by Victoria Chakma and Hasan is played by Mostafa Monwar. Mostafa being an acclaimed actor for his extraordinary roles in "Live from Dhaka" and "Made in Bangladesh".
The cinematography was done by Mathieu Giombini head of cinematography at La Fémis, giving the film an European arthouse aesthetic.
The film’s rights deal was negotiated by producer Aadnan Imtiaz Ahme and Mai Meksawan of Diversion.
