Selena Gomez has amassed a fortune worth $1.3bn, according to Bloomberg and most of it comes from her stakes at "Rare Beauty," a beauty brand she launched in 2019 with a focus on “helping everyone celebrate their individuality and redefining what beauty means”.
Rare’s liquid soft pinch blush had gone viral on social media, reportedly generating net sales of $400m in a year. Her brands success put her on the "youngest self-made female" list, alongside the likes of long-term best friend Taylor Swift and fellow singer turned beauty mogul Rihanna.
Selena started off her showbiz journey on Disney channel’s "Barney and Friends" as Gianna. From Barney, she moved to act in "Wizards of Waverly Place".
Her acting career took off from Disney. Then she began to experiment with music. She started her band “Selena Gomez and the Scene” and released hits such as “Who say”, “Naturally” and “Love you like a love song”.
With her experience on Disney and hit songs, soon the young star was launched into the stratosphere of stardom.
Selena has often shared her personal life to public, from the good, the bad and the ugly. She shared her struggles with mental health and lupus. Her struggles humanized her to a point where she became an inspiration to millions of young girls.
She has also worked with luxury designers such as Louis Vuitton, Coach and Puma and she apparently took home $6 million per season for the Emmy nominated show "Only Murders in the Building”.
Despite being the most followed woman on Instagram, she has extensively discussed the negative impact of the site on mental health and has in fact deleted her own accounts multiple times.
Her down- to- earth nature shouldn’t distract from the fact that she is a very smart business woman who uses her platform and business to raise awareness.
