A defamation case worth Rs100 crore has been filed against Poonam Pandey and her husband Sam Bombay.

The defamation case was filed by Faizan Ansari, who lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the Kanpur police commissioner, India.

Ansari said that Poonam Pandey and Sam Bombay conspired to fabricate her death and diminish the gravity of cancer. They have exploited the emotions and trust of millions of people, including those within the Bollywood industry.

The complaint calls for issuing an arrest warrant against the couple.

On February 3, Poonam Pandey, model and actress, went on to her Instagram to clarify that she was alive and that the news of her death from cervical cancer was not accurate.

She said that she was “proud of” what her death news had achieved. She apologized to her fans and followers for “shocking” them.

The news of her death surfaced all over the internet on February 2.

In the video, Poonam said: "I am alive. I didn't die of cervical cancer. Unfortunately, I can't say that about those hundreds and thousands of women who have lost their lives because of cervical cancer."

Sharing the video, Poonam wrote: "I feel compelled to share something significant with you all - I am here, alive. Cervical Cancer didn’t claim me, but tragically, it has claimed the lives of thousands of women who stemmed from a lack of knowledge on how to tackle this disease."

She also said: "Unlike some other cancers, cervical cancer is entirely preventable. The key lies in the HPV vaccine and early detection tests. We have the means to ensure no one loses their life to this disease. Let’s empower one another with critical awareness and ensure every woman is informed about the steps to take. On February 2, a post shared by the late actor-model's team on Poonam Pandey's official Instagram account read: "This morning is a tough one for us. Deeply saddened to inform you that we have lost our beloved Poonam to cervical cancer. Every living form that ever came in contact with her was met with pure love and kindness. In this time of grief, we would request for privacy while we remember her fondly for all that we shared."

Speaking to, Poonam’s manager Nikita Sharma said: “Poonam Pandey’s commitment to her work and her unwavering spirit amidst her health struggles was truly remarkable. Her demise will continue to remind us of the urgency to prioritize health, particularly in the case of preventable diseases like cervical cancer.”
