Exciting news for all Taylor Swift fans across the world: Stanford University in the US is offering a course on the pop star, titled "The Last Great American Songwriter: Storytelling with Taylor Swift Through the Eras."
According to the school's Student Initiated Course program, a student of Stanford, named Ava Jeffs, designed this course.
A Stanford spokesperson, Luisa Rapport, said: “There are a handful of Student Initiated Courses offered per quarter. Student Initiated Courses are considered 'activity courses,' and allow students to explore areas of interest or enrichment.”
However, this is not the only course inspired by the renowned musician at this university. Earlier this year, a course titled “All Too Well (Ten Week Version)” was offered to students at Stanford; the course is based on Taylor's song entitled “All Too Well (Taylor's Version).”
There is good news for the students in the sense that this course will not affect anyone's GPA and the students will only be graded as “satisfactory” or “non-satisfactory.”
Ava Jeffs talked about the impact of the course on the students with The Mercury News.
"The whole goal of the class is to dive into the art of songwriting, exploring the interplay between literary references and lyricism and storytelling in Taylor Swift's entire discography, taking it one album at a time and trying to look at the evolution of using songwriting as a narrative form. It will draw parallels to classic works of literature and poetry in each album and gain a deeper understanding of the narrative power of music," said Jeffs.
In order to supervise and assist Jeffs, Prof Mark McGurl will be present to look after the academic integrity and grading for the course.
