British actor Tilda Swinton is seen carrying a Dhaka Lit Fest-marked tote bag in her latest film, “Three Thousand Years of Longing”.

Adapted from the 1994 short story "The Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye", “Three Thousand Years of Longing” is a 2022 fantasy romantic-drama film directed by George Miller and starring Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba.

The movie released in the US on August 26 and is currently screening at STAR Cineplex theatres in Bangladesh.

Tilda Swinton is a supporter of DLF and has attended the event in the past.

DLF began with a pilot event in 2011 under the aegis of the world-famous Hay-on-Wye festival.

With three rapid iterations in 2012, 2013 and 2014 the festival established Dhaka’s place in the global literary circuit.

In 2015 the festival celebrated its fifth anniversary, and with Sadaf Saaz, Ahsan Akbar and Kazi Anis Ahmed as directors of the festival, it assumed a new name — Dhaka Lit Fest — to mark its commitment to promoting Dhaka as well as Bangladeshi literature and culture to the world.

The festival is focused primarily on literature, but embraces culture and ideas more broadly, generating discussions on a wide array of topics: fiction, literary non-fiction, history, politics and society, poetry, translations, science, philosophy, and religion.
