Gazi Mazharul Anwar’s evergreen songs

Eminent lyricist Gazi Mazharul Anwar composed more than 20,000 songs in a career spanning six decades.

Born on February 22, 1943, he had an unparalleled talent for writing songs at lightning speed. He once told Dhaka Tribune in an interview that he wrote seven songs in two hours for Zahir Raihan's film “Dui Bhai.” 

He received the Ekushey Padak, Shadhinata Padak and five National Film Awards. He is also renowned as a film director and producer of more than 38 films. Three of his songs are in the list of BBC Bangla’s "20 greatest Bangla songs."

The legend passed away on September 4 at the age of 79.
