The 23rd Rainbow Film Festival was inaugurated on May 29, 2022, and will run till June 5, 2022 across East London.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Genesis Cinema and Mile End Road on Sunday. The Labour MP Rushanara Ali attended the event.
“There was a time when it was really hard to watch Bangla films in London. Your best hope was to catch a screening of a Bollywood film. I am very glad to see that things are changing now,” she said during her speech. “The Rainbow Film Festival committee has been doing remarkable work for the last 23 years, and I am very happy to be a part of their efforts today.”
National Film Award winning actor Aupee Karim’s 2021 film “Debris of Desire” (Mayar Jonjal) was screened at the inaugural ceremony. Directed by Indranil Roychowdhury, the story revolves around a petty criminal, who falls in love with a prostitute and wants to run away with her savings. Things change when he meets a laid-off factory worker who is desperate to stop his wife from working as a housemaid.
According to the festival’s website, “From Monday 30th May to Saturday 4th June there will be two screenings every day at The Brady Arts Centre (from 4.00 pm to 8.30 pm) at the Theatre Hall. There will be a “Film Corner” at the side hall of Brady Arts Centre where short film screening, seminars and Q/A sessions will take place. Professional filmmakers including directors, cameramen, editors, film journalists will present and will have one to one meeting if required. (Monday to Saturday 4.00 pm to 8.30 pm) A “one day film making” course will take place at Brady Arts Centre on Saturday noon “Women’s Film Conference” will take place on Saturday 5th June 2022 at Brady Arts Centre.”
The 23rd edition of the prestigious festival will conclude on June 5, 2022 at Rich Mix Centre in Bethnal Green Road.
