Angelina Jolie explains why she joined Marvel’s ‘Eternals’

Angelina Jolie, who has been cast as Thena in 'Eternals', used to be one of the few A-listers never to have appeared in superhero movies

In a Vogue interview, Angelina Jolie has finally explained why she decided to star in a superhero film.

Jolie, who has been cast as Thena in director Chloé Zhao's Eternals, used to be one of the few Hollywood megastars who never made an appearance in a comic book movie. The Oscar-winning actor recently revealed why that had to change.

“I love this cast, and that we all came together. I signed up to support Chloé [Zhao]’s vision and Marvel’s commitment to expand the way we see superheroes. Running around in a gold bodysuit was not how I imagined my forties. But it’s good crazy, I think.”

The Eternals will follow a team of new superheroes, ancient in age, who will rise to save mankind from the 'Deviants', following the events of Avengers: Endgame.

The star-studded cast includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.

The film is slated for release on November 5, 2021.
