The series is likely to premiere in 2023, following the release of 'Black Panther II'

Update : 02 Feb 2021, 01:39 PM

There has been much speculation about the future of Black Panther following the death of lead actor Chadwick Boseman. However, it is confirmed now that the franchise is alive and well - soon to be thriving.

As 'Black Panther II' is slated for release on July 8, 2022, a TV series based on the kingdom of Wakanda is also in the works, according to Deadline.

Director Coogler has recently signed a five-year contract with Disney Television and is developing a series about Wakanda for Disney+ and Marvel TV.

The series is likely to revolve around characters like Okoye (Danai Gurira), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke) and W’Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya).

“We are especially excited that we will be taking our first leap with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and their partners at Marvel Studios, where we will be working closely with them on select MCU shows for Disney+. We’re already in the mix on some projects that we can’t wait to share,” Coogler said in a statement.

The series is likely to premiere in 2023, following the movie sequel of Black Panther
