Around 200 poets from more than a hundred countries are participating in the 30th edition of the prestigious International Poetry Festival of Medellín.

Founded in 1991, this is an internationally recognized festival, held annually in Medellín – a city notorious for its alarming rate of crime and violence.

The festival bagged a Spanish literary award and was one of the recipients of the Right Livelihood Award for its contribution to spreading peace.

In 2011, the World Poetry Movement was founded by the festival organizers.

Two poets from Bangladesh - 80’s iconic poet Aminur Rahman and 90’s celebrated poet Quamruzzaman Swapan, will participate in the ongoing festival, on October 10.

Quamruzzaman said, “I am very glad to attend the closing ceremony of this festival. It is a matter of great honour for me. I have been a part of the World Poetry Movement for the last decade or so.”

Like most major festivals this year, the 70-day Poetry Festival of Medellín has gone virtual due to the ongoing pandemic. Poets around the world have been reciting their works to online viewers since August 1.
