Sachin Dev Burman, one of the most iconic composers of the subcontinent, remains immensely popular to both Bangla and Hindi speakers.

A darling to the people of Bangladesh for his renditions on timeless songs like Ami Takdhum Takdhum Bajai Bangladesher Dhol, Ke Jash Re, Mono Dilo Na Bodhu, Borne Gondhe, Shono Go Dokhin Hawa and many more, Burman’s thin but powerful and accented voice distinguished him from his peers, and made him immortal.

The legend was born on October 1, 1906 as one of the nine children of the Royal Tripura family in Comilla, Bengal Presidency (in present-day Bangladesh).

Burman’s 114th birth anniversary was observed at his birth place on Thursday, October 1, by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. DC Abul Fazal Mir attended the ceremony of Burman’s birth anniversary celebration as the chief guest, placed wreaths at the late singer’s ancestral home, and cut a birthday cake.

Burman started his musical career in Bengal as a singer of folk and light classical music, and worked in more than a hundred Hindi and Bangla films. His illustrious film singing career began with Tinkari Chakraborthy’s Sanjher Pidim (1935).

The singer passed away on October 31, 1975.
