Celine Dion is a huge Cher fan. This was made obvious at the Billboard Music Awards on May 21, when she was seen rocking out to Cher’s performance of “Believe” and “If I Could Turn Back Time”. Dion, who had previously performed “My Heart Will Go On”, was seen dancing and singing along to Cher’s performance backstage.
Celine Dion was on hand to celebrate her signature song’s 20th anniversary, while Cher was invited to perform two of her biggest hits and receive the Icon Award. Past recipients include Celine Dion, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, Stevie Wonder and Neil Diamond.
“I’m honored to receive the 2017 Billboard Music Awards ICON Award and take the stage to celebrate my love of music with my fans,” Cher said in a statement before the show. “Seeing so many powerful artists — especially female artists emerge and take their place in history through the years has been incredible. I’m honored to be amongst the previous ICON Award winners and to celebrate this milestone achievement by performing ‘Believe’ on the show.”
For the 20th anniversary of the title song from the Titanic this fall, Celine Dion provided a soaring, spectacular version of “My Heart Will Go On.” Dressed like an angel — and performing under a gigantic chandelier with scenes from Titanic played in the background — Dion brought a few audience members to tears. And she stole the show one more time with her unrestrained appreciation for Cher and her music.
