Daag streaming globally for coronavirus relief

All the proceeds would go to the Bidyanondo Foundation

Update : 04 May 2020, 03:56 PM

As part of the Film for Humanity initiative, Liberation War based short film Daag received global release on Vimeo on May 1.

Although Daag had its premiere at the short film corner of the 70th Cannes Film Festival three years ago, it had not been released in Bangladesh before now.

However, the short film can now be watched from all around the world through the on-demand-rental system, in which case a viewer would have to pay only one dollar. All the proceeds would go to the Bidyanondo Foundation, which has been providing aid to the destitute and the marginalized people of the country ever since the nation-wide lockdown began.

The short film was directed by Josim Ahmed and the background score was composed by Partha Barua. It is a story of a freedom fighter Shila, who takes revenge on her rapist after eight long years.

Josim Ahmed told Dhaka Tribune Showtime: "After releasing in Europe and USA through ShortsTV network, a lot of people were asking me about how they will watch the film from Bangladesh. I couldn’t answer due to sensor issue, but now everyone can watch the film from anywhere in the globe. Additionally I would like to say, they will not only watch this film, they are helping people by paying $1 dollar using credit card or PayPal, and the money will go to Bidyanonda Foundation’s PayPal account directly. The raised money will be used for helping the destitute in society who have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic."

The cast of Daag includes Sharmin Joha Soshe, Shatabdi Wadud and Bakar Bakul in pivotal roles.
