Tamil producer PL Thenappan, who holds the rights to the 1999 film Minsara Kanna, has declared  he is going to sue the producers of the Oscar winning Korean film Parasite, on grounds of plagiarism. This announcement came on the heels of complaints raised on social media by fans of the Tamil film, regarding the similarities between Parasite and Minsara Kanna.

Thenappan told the press he is going to file a case with the help of an international lawyer, and seek compensation from the producers of Parasite for allegedly copying the plot of his film Minsara Kanna.

The director of Minsara Kanna, KS Ravikumar said he is pleased that this new controversy is likely to make his film more popular among international audiences.

Tamil actors Vijay, Rambha, Monica Castelino, and Khushboo, starred in Minsara Kanna. The story revolves around a man named Kaasi (Vijay)  who enters the household of a rich woman as a driver, and soon gets his family members employed in her household, while keeping all of their identities hidden.

Bong Joon-ho's Parasite created history this year as the only non-English movie ever to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. The film also won Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Foreign Film.
