Hayat Mahmud and Mita Haque awarded Rabindra Puroshkar

Professor Hayat Mahmud and singer Mita Haque received the Bangla Academy ‘Rabindra Puroshkar’ on Sunday at the Abdul Karim Shahitya Bisharad Auditorium. Mahmud was awarded for his research work on Tagore and Mita Haque for her contribution in the field of Rabindra sangeet. Bangla Academy held the award ceremony on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s 156th birth anniversary. A keynote speech was delivered at the award ceremony by Professor Fakrul Alam of the English department of Dhaka University on “Rabindranath Tagore: Modernism and Nationalism. Prominent artist Fahmida Khatun attended the event as the chief guest. The program was chaired by the president of Bangla Academy Anisuzzaman, professor emeritus at Dhaka University, and the director general of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan delivered the welcome speech. The award winners received wreaths, certificates, and Tk50 thousand from the guests.rabindra-1Professor Mahmud said, “A lot of the people present here love me. I hope everyone will be well today.” Mita Haque said “I do not consider this a prize; this award represent honour and love for me. This will inspire me more to delve into singing Rabindra sangeet.”
