World Hindi Day was celebrated by the High Commission of India on Sunday. To mark the day, it organized a colourful event in Gulshan, in the capital.
High Commissioner Riva Ganguly Das presented awards to winners of Hindi poem recitation, elocution and speech competitions.
Deputy High Commissioner Biswadip Dey read the Prime Minister's message for the attending audience. Dr Neepa Choudhury, director of the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, was also present.
There were also music and dance, including a performance by dance artist Munmun Ahmed.
World Hindi Day was first held on January 10, 2006, with former Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh leading the celebrations. Since then, World Hindi Day has been celebrated on the same date every year.
