If you have ever wondered how much rock legend Kurt Cobain received as royalties at the beginning of his career, then you may be surprised to learn that he received the paltry sum of $26.57.
Recently, the amount was revealed after an old royalty check issued to Nirvana front-man was found at a Seattle record store, reports Ultimate Classic Rock.
The 28-year-old royalty check was discovered at Easy Street Records, among a collection that was purchased in the '90s.
The Chemical Bank check from BMI (Broadcast Music Inc, a performing rights organization) was issued to "Kurt D Cobain" at an address in nearby Olympia, Washington.
The music store shared a photo of the check on Instagram with the caption: "This is dated 03/06/91, 6 months before [Nevermind] would change the face of the planet. We're guessing the next royalty checks were a bit larger than only $26.57."
The check was worth about $50 after considering inflation.
Shop owner Matt Vaughan also found a money order payable to Cobain's landlord, one of the rocker's backstage passes, and a past-due doctor's bill.
