Drawing Words, an exhibition of children’s book illustration, will be held in Dhaka and Cox’s Bazaar for young readers to explore a new world of joyful drawings. The exhibition will open at the British Council on Fuller Road in Dhaka on June 28 and continue till July 11. In Cox’s Bazar, there will be a two-day exhibition at the District Government Public Library from June 29 to 30.

The exhibition will feature 10 illustrators from across the United Kingdom whose work made an important and original contribution to contemporary British picture book illustrations. Some of the artists are well-known, while others are at the beginning of their careers.

Emily Hughes, whose illustrated book Wild will be showcased, will inaugurate the exhibition on Friday. During her stay in Bangladesh, she will have interactive sessions with students in Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar as well.

Sharing her views on how her illustrations take shape, Emily said: “When the drawing has an urge to reveal itself as something wider (than a question or an unfinished idea), it becomes independent of the drawer,” she said. “The words come after, only to explain what the drawing alone cannot.”

The shows are free and will be open to all from 10 am to 7 pm daily at both locations.
