Sharier Khan’s renowned cartoon strip Basic Ali is being transformed into an action-comedy series. Featuring youngster Tawsif Mahbub in the role of the illustrious Basic Ali, the series is still a work in progress, with Saeed Rinku working as the kingpin behind the camera.
Sharier, the creator of these characters, is supervising the whole project. The shooting has already started, and is expected to be completed within May.
“This is the first time I am working in the video production industry. But being a cartoonist, I am perceiving the whole project from a cartoonist’s point of view. The comic is the central element of the whole framework. It was always in our minds while outlining the ideas,” said Sharier.
“Every type of media has it’s own strength. The comic will always be where it is now,” said Sharier Khan.
“Putting a gag in a small panel is one thing, but when you are trying to make videos with 10 to 15 minute episodes, you better have a story in there. So, the flavour will be much different from that of the comic. But we always had the comic in our minds while preparing the materials for the videos,” he added.
Sharier also expressed that he wants to focus on the social media platforms, along with TV, as he wants to be in control of his project.
The first instalment of the skits are expected to be out by the end of May, featuring Tawsif, Bijori Barkatullah, Abdullah Rana, Sabrina Mehek, Farhana Mili, Masum Bashar, Mir Noufel Ashrafi Jisan, Salman Zaman and Noushin Mou in various characters.
