A songwriting workshop is rare in the metro city we live in. Most of the lyricists in the music industry are self-taught and write lyrics from their hearts, personal experiences, or based on emotions.
Aiming to find talented lyricists from all over the country, “Artistic Arsenal,” an initiative by Bengal Creative Hub, organized an intense songwriting workshop, on Saturday, for young musicians and lyricists.
The three-hour long workshop was conducted by renowned singer, songwriter, and musician Labik Kamal Gaurob at the EMK Center in Dhanmondi.
Labik shared his thoughts on the workshop with the Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime: “This workshop was more about how to produce lyrics professionally; I highlighted how to understand the clients’ brief and produce a creative product.”
“In this digital era, the idea of ‘being a complete package’ is more important than quality.
“This is a pilot project and I am very excited about the outcomes of the workshop.
“I shared my experiences with the participants and tried to teach them how to channel their creativity in a productive way,” he further explained.
Participants—who were divided into four groups at the workshop—wrote lyrics for “Pohela Boishkah” associated with contemporary music. This was the first time Labik conducted such a workshop.
This intense workshop gave the young talents an opportunity to unlock the art and craft of songwriting and to spark their imagination with creative songwriting and composing techniques through small group activities, panel discussions, and live performances.
Bengal Creative Hub also called on music enthusiasts to participate in a competition during the workshop.
Managing Director of Bengal Creative Hub Eeshita Azad told us: “Last year we created Bengal Creative Hub to build a platform for young creative individuals to showcase their work and network with like-minded people — including employers.
“It is a cross-cultural and social media platform.
“It is a social business.”
“Artistic Arsenal” is a series of events organized by Bengal Creative Hub in association with EMK Centre. Through this platform, creative individuals engage in interactive sessions with other participants.
