Friday marks the 25th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death. Twenty-five years ago, on April 8, Cobain was found dead at his home. In his music career, that spanned such short time, Cobain contributed so much to establishing grunge music as a commercially successful genre.

For the brilliant music he left behind, he is recognized as the most iconic alternative rock musician  of all time, and is remembered with respect and love. He will always be the 27-year-old grunge guru of his music.

Health issues and death

Throughout his life, Cobain struggled with depression and substance abuse. The final few years of Cobain’s short life were the most difficult. He struggled with heroin addiction and chronic mental health problems such as depression.

His body was found at his Washington home by an electrician who had arrived to install a security system.

There was note on his dead body—addressed to Cobain’s childhood imaginary friend Boddah—which read: “Cobain had not 'felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music, along with really writing [...] for too many years now.'

According to a forensic report, the presence of drugs in his system was very high and the report also estimated that Cobain died on April 5, 1994.  Many people believe that he was actually murdered.

Unfortunately, Cobain is one of the significant members of the "27 Club."

Legacy and influence

Cobain will live forever through his music. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, along with his Nirvana band mates Dave Grohl and Novoselic, in 2014.

He was also ranked the 12th greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone magazine; and ranked 7th by MTV in the "22 Greatest Voices in Music."

Known as a "Generation X icon", Cobain was ranked 20th by Hit Parader on their list of the "100 Greatest Metal Singers of All Time" in 2006.

Till today, many books have been written about his life. There are also countless films and documentaries about his life.
