Andrea Morghen: A visionary film producer and artistic festival director

Italian film producer and director of ‘Religion Today Film Festival’ Andrea Morghen came to Bangladesh this year to take part in the Dhaka International Film Festival 2019 (DIFF) with ‘Alganesh.’ The feature documentary is an Aurora Vision production, and produced by Andrea. In a conversation with Dhaka Tribune Showtime’s Nazia Adnin, Andrea talks about film festivals experience, impact of films in different societies, and how it can bring positive changes in the world

Trento based producer and director, Andrea Morghen founded his production company “Aurora Vision” in 2013. Aurora Vision was a local production company which grew larger over the years.

Since then he has produced more than 15 documentaries, many of which have been selected and awarded at different film festivals all over the world. 

He has worked with international troupes in Israel, Kosovo, Morocco, Uganda, Japan, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Albania, Tanzania, Ghana, USA, Mexico, and Mozambique. 

Talking about his production house Aurora Vision Andrea told us: “We try to find good stories for our films, and share hope with everybody through those stories.”

As a versatile person, Andrea is also involved with various activities that include training and education of youngsters. 

As festival director

Andrea Morghen has been working as the festival director of Religion Today Film Festival for two years now. As the festival director, Andrea tries to understand the social structure of different countries through their films; because he believes films can help bring positive changes all over the world. 

When he was asked about his thoughts on religions he replied: “Religion is something very universal, where ever you go in the world.”

“Presence of religion is subtly shown in the films as well.”

Andrea also wrote and directed five social-themed documentaries as his main focus point is to bring encouraging impacts on the society through films.

 “I believe that films can really affect the society for the better, because a good film can change the way people think.”

As an optimistic person, Andrea believes that: “As festival director or film-makers, it is our responsibility to depict love and humanity in documentaries or feature films to bring changes in the world.”

“Countries like Israel, Iran or Bangladesh portray their societies in films and those societies are highly influenced by their religions.” 

“In some countries religions shape the society, and makes lives of women miserable, so if we could address such issues through films, something positive would come out eventually,” he added.
