In the 1990s, post - grunge rock, a derivative genre of grunge, alternative rock, and hard rock, became very popular worldwide. When grunge became a mainstream genre because of bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam, record labels started signing bands that sounded similar to these bands.
The wave reached the Bangladeshi rock music industry as well, and a lot of bands started experimenting with post- grunge rock.
Emerging post-grunge rock band Liquid State Drive’s (LSD’s) debut album, “Tomar Itihash” was released on Friday in both CD format and online. There are a total of eight songs in the album which are “Gobhir,” “Opare,” “Mithha-bichhinota,” “Attoshur,” “Bibhrom,” “Ostitter Obokash,” “Barud,” and “Tomar Itihash.”
“Gobhir,” is the opening track of the album, which starts with a slow voice rendition. From 1:50 seconds, the song’s drumming and bass part kick in and make the song groovy instantly.
The lyrical substance of post-grunge is known for being direct and blunt. Retaining those characteristics, the lyrics of “Gobhir” are very optimistic and urge youngsters to dream on. The song has every potential to be a hit in live shows.
“Opare,” the second song of the album is enthralling from the beginning for its perfect sync of guitar, with the bliss of bass, and the beat of drums.
“Barud,” is the best number of this album. The song is very well composed for which rock music lovers would take to the song easily. The song delivers a complete grunge or alternative rock vibe. The destruction of war and its effects are the theme of this song.
In this song Rushmian’s voice demonstrates he can sound both savage and tender at the same time.
On the other hand, “Bibhrom” is an instrumental track which has psychedelic vibes throughout the number.
“Tomar Itihash,” the last track of this album bears evidence of LSD’s signature style. Backing vocals, rhythm guitars, and slow drumming make the song phenomenal.
The rest of the songs have the potential to grow on you over time.
Tinu Rashid from rock band Kanival produced the album while it was mastered by Ekram Wasi. The album was released under The Mothership Records label.
The current line-up of the band features Rushmian Wadud on vocals/rhythm guitar, Sajidul Hossain on drums/percussion, and backing vocals with Safwan Ahsanullah on bass, and Sakib Noor on lead guitar.
