Last Monday, Lorde, whose real name is Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, released a short video teaser of her riding in the back of a car, along with the dates “3.2.17 NYC” and “3.3.17 NZ,” hinting she would release her new single on those dates. The pop star followed up this tease on Wednesday by revealing the title of her new single, “Green Light”.
Lorde tweeted, “I am so proud of this song. It’s very different, and kinda unexpected. It’s complex and funny and sad and joyous, and it’ll make you dance.”
Lorde would be debuting alongside a new music video, directed by Grant Singer.
Following up on that, Lorde tweeted on Wednesday “‘Green Light’ is the first chapter of a story I’m gonna tell you, the story of the last two wild, fluorescent years of my life. This is where we begin.”
Lorde hasn’t released an album since 2013’s acclaimed Pure Heroine, but in November she released a long Facebook note updating fans on the status of her new music.
