Independent feature film “Ahoto Phooler Golpo” was released this Eid—in the Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district, Rangpur. The movie, directed by Anto Azad, was first screened in an abandoned cinema hall of Debiganj.
This movie is made with the intention to establish village audiences for Bangla cinema. With that in mind, the director led the promotion and screening of the film in Panchagarh.
“The movie, ‘Ahoto Phooler Golpo’ paints a picture of one’s artistic freedom and love for cultural heritage,” director Anto Azad told Showtime.
He further stated that he is displaying the film in villages to enable audiences to experience the history of their cultural artifacts and indigenous traditions.
When asked about his experience regarding the alternative method of screening of the movie, the director replied: “Initially there were minor obstacles with hall issues, audience confusion regarding the whole idea, however, on average 100-130 people watch ‘Ahoto Phooler Golpo’ at each screening. ”
The leads of “Ahoto Phooler Golpo” are the fresh faces of Tahia Tazon Khan and Shujon Mahbub. Veteran actor Gazi Rakayet also plays an important part in this film.
Anto Azad opined that since his picture is not a commercial film, he wants to explore culture, norms, and social events of Bangladesh via local and unknown faces with no star power.
People of Panchagarh will be able to enjoy the movie for two weeks on the occasion of Eid. Later, Anto Azad plans to continue distributing the film in other divisions like Sylhet, Chittagong, and Rajshahi.
