Bengal Sangskriti Utsab commences at Sylhet

The opening ceremony took place at the Hason Raja stage, at 8pm. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the event. Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, the founder and chairperson of Brac, Asaduzzaman Noor MP, minister of Cultural Affairs, Zakia Tazin, managing director of Index Group, and Syed Mahbubur Rahman, managing director of Dhaka Bank among others, graced the opening ceremony. On the first day, three films – Shabnam Ferdousi’s Born Together, Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s Television, and Nasir Uddin Yousuff’s Guerilla, were screened at the Syed Mujtaba Ali stage. In the evening, Warda Rihab and her troupe performed classical Manipuri dance at the Hason Raja stage, followed by a performance of singers of Jatiya Rabindrasangeet Sammilan Parishad, Sylhet. After the opening ceremony, Aditi Mohsin performed Rabindra Sangeet. Through the renditions of Joler Gaan’s folk hits, the performers and organisers called it a night.DMS_3783Dedicated to the memory of the late national professor Gyantaposh Abdur Razzak, the festival is being presented by Index Group in association with Dhaka Bank Ltd. Channel-i is the broadcast partner for the festival. The 10-day festival celebrates the diversity and beauty of Bengali culture through music, drama, dance and film shows, among other activities. Kali o Kolom, the monthly literary magazine published by the Bengal Foundation, has also joined the festival and is holding a three-day literary conference. A number of 383 national artists, including musicians, dancers, painters, writers, and poets will be a part of this event. The participants include Rezwana Chowdhury Banya, Khairul Anam Shakil, Chandana Majumdar and Kuddus Boyati. Famous Indian artists – Haimanti Shukla, Srikanto Acharya, Jayati Chakraborty and Parboti Baul have also been invited to sing at the festival. A total of 27 painters, including Rafiqun Nabi, Rokeya Sultana, and Shishir Bhattacharjee,  will participate in the Subir Chowdhury Art Camp throughout the festival. A total number of 50 prominent national and international writers will also attend the event. Besides, 23 other writers from India and two other writers from Nepal will also take part in the literary fest. Meghmollar, Anil Bagchir Ekdin, Runway, and Titash Ekti Nodir Naam are some of the movies among the list of a total of 14 which have been scheduled to be shown throughout the festival. Four famous dramas will be staged, besides displaying the traditional food of Bangladesh. A book fair will also take place simultaneously throughout the event.
