John Wick is a man with a plan, who’s commitment to deliver what’s expected of him. In the sequel to 2014’s action-thriller, erstwhile hitman Wick (Reeves) is about to retire once again. Looking to find some peace and quiet and start his life over in upstate New York, he has no choice but to honour the blood oath he made years ago to Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio), an Italian playboy.
In short, Reeves is a genuine movie star, but a streaky one. Among Reeves’ major films, the correlation between box-office revenue and critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, which aggregates reviews, is a trifling 0.5. Which is to say, some of his most lucrative movies are also some of his most panned projects.
