Renowned musician and freedom fighter Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul is preparing to go for a heart bypass surgery within a week, according to a status he recently posted on Facebook.
He said he had been diagnosed with eight blocks in his arteries and must have a bypass surgery soon.
The composer had been admitted in a Dhaka hospital for four days before making his condition known on social media.
Bulbul wrote that he appeared as a witness at the trial of 1971 Brahmanbaria jail massacre case in 2012. He was one of the five lucky survivors of the massacre, in which 49 other freedom fighters getting slaughtered.
As a consequence of his fearless appearance as a witness in war crimes trial, Bulbul’s younger brother Miraj was killed, and he has been confined to his home with 24-hour police protection ever since.
“This confinement has eventually made me sick,” Bulbul wrote. “I don’t want any help from the government or from my fellow artistes; I just wish to hold our national flag and the Quran for 10 seconds before going into surgery.”
Bulbul is currently in his home attending to some unfinished compositions. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reportedly offered to take care of his medical expenses.
