Actor Sushama Sarker will star in multiple plays and telefilms this Eid. Some of these productions were shot before Pohela Boishakh when she was spotted at the seven guilds (actors, directors, producers etc) meet up at Shaheen Hall and the Telehome Boishakhi meet and greet.
Among other celebrities spotted with her at these events were Suborna Mustafa, Zahid Hasan, Tanven Sweety, Farzana Chumki, Deepa Khondokar, Zakia Bari Mamo, Animesh Aich, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Aparna Ghose, and Sadia Jahan Prova. Written by Masum Shahrear and directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud, Sarker, starrer “Tanaporon,” is an ‘80s period play about a joint family of two brothers and a sister.
The older brother, Shatabdi Wadud, is the bread winner for the whole family. The younger brother, Tawsif Mahbub, is a free spirit and likes to roam around all day, deflecting day to day responsibilities of the family. When their father falls sick and needs an operation, the family discovers a well-kept secret about the younger brother. Sabnam Faria plays the younger brother’s wife, while Sushama Sarker plays wife of the older brother. Sushama told Showtime:
“She is the glue that holds the family together. She’s the caregiver and the counselor in the family. In dire times like when a marriage is falling apart or when money is tight, she can be counted on to save the day.”
Sushama is also starring in other Eid plays which have already completed shooting. She will be in a big budget crime play, which was shot in 3D, an innovation hardly ever seen in Bangladesh. She has also completed shooting for Shihab Shaheen’s Eid telefilm, which will air on NTV. The play name has not been confirmed yet, she said.
This play also centres around a joint family where two sisters are about to get married. The telefilm has an ensemble cast of 17 artists. “I’ve never worked on a play that has these many stars; all playing major roles. I love the story and the characters in this telefilm. I think it will turn out to be memorable.”
