On the occasion of Independence Day, Dhaka University Department of Theatre and Performance Studies staged “Nil Dongshon” at Naat Mondol auditorium at 7:00pm on Monday. Written by eminent writer Syed Shamsul Haque, the play explores how extraordinary circumstances can make ordinary people achieve greatness.
The story revolves around Kazi Saiful Islam, who migrates to Bangladesh after the 1947 India-Pakistan partition. Enchanted by the writings of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Saiful names his son after the celebrated poet. One Major from the Pakistani army mistakes this Nazrul for the poet and asks him to write poetry about undivided Pakistan. Nazrul refuses to write such poetry and is indoctrinated into the Liberation War in the process.
The play stars Mohammad Wali Hossain Emdad, Dudro Shaojal Kabbo, Touhidur Rahman, Farzia Hoque Farin and Taslima Hossain Mishu.
