Woman sues Gazi Rakayet under Pornography Control Act

Update : 25 Mar 2018, 10:57 PM
A woman, reportedly a housewife, filed charges against Gazi Rakayet Hossain, actor, director and current president of the Directors’ Guild, under the  Pornography Control Act at Shyampur Police Station on Thursday night. Shyampur Police Station Sub-Inspector Mahbub Alam recently told the press that he has been assigned to work on this case but has not yet begun the investigation. The alleged victim said that she had received “obscene, unethical, suggestive and sexually stimulant” messages from the Facebook profile ‘Gazi Rakayet Tuku’ on February 27. She also said that these were counter to her “religious sentiments” and have caused her “distress and social humiliation.” The housewife claimed that she had first posted a screenshot of their conversation in a closed group on Facebook. Gazi Rakayet said in a Facebook post on March 6 his two Facebook accounts had been hacked. Rakayet then claimed to the media that some of the students who had his Facebook account’s password might initiated that conversation. Three media organisations started an investigation into the issue on March 10 and Sangita later removed the post as the organisations assured they would investigate the issue. Then on March 12, Tanvir Hassan Zoha, cyber expert, on behalf of the three organisations, said in a live Facebook video session that Rakayet’s account had been ‘hacked from Singapore’. The alleged victim said in her complaint that Rakayet’s case was an attempt to conceal the accusation against him. She also said: “He is pressuring my well-wishers and me in many ways to withdraw the charges.” She contacted the Cyber Security and Crime Division on March 13 and filed a general diary at Shyampur Police Station on March 17. She also claimed that Rakayet and the three organisations were “threatening her and Sangita in the name of investigation.” Rakayet recently told the press: “I don’t know about the case yet. Police will investigate it now. I don’t want to comment as it will be difficult for me to speak now.” Moreover, rights activists have held demonstrations demanding the withdrawal of the case against Sangita.
