Coldplay’s global tour third highest-grossing in history

Update : 17 Nov 2017, 09:40 PM
British rock band Coldplay has generated more than $500 million in ticket sales in total with their “A Head Full of Dreams” tour’s 114th and final show in Buenos Aires, which is the third highest-grossing in music history, the band’s promoters said in a statement on Thursday. According to the statement from Live Nation, an American live-events management company based in Beverly Hills, California, the English band generated $523m in ticket sales across all of the performances after the final show of the tour came full circle on Wednesday night in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Only two other acts have grossed more over a single tour in history: Irish rock band U2, who grossed $784m on their elaborate “360 Degree” tour from 2009 to 2011, and The Rolling Stones, who grossed slightly more than “A Head Full of Dreams” with their “A Bigger Bang” tour a decade ago. Coldplay offered a tour with hi-tech shows, with fans given interactive wristbands that change colour to the music, and eye-popping displays with lasers and confetti. Chris Martin, the band’s frontman, earlier hinted that “A Head Full of Dreams” would be Coldplay’s last full-length album, though they released a new EP in July 2017. The record breaking tour began at Buenos Aires in March 2016, and was attended by nearly 5.4 million fans, according to statistics from Live Nation. The band sold out multiple dates at stadiums around the globe, including London, Paris, Los Angeles, Chicago, New Jersey and more. Coldplay’s massive ticket sales pushed Roger Waters and his 2010-13 “The Wall Live” tour into fourth place on the list of highest-grossing musical events of all time.
