Karan Johar on sexual orientation: I am very proud of who I am

Update : 13 Nov 2017, 10:06 PM
After years of tittle-tattle about his sexual orientation, ace director Karan Johar finally decided to take the lid off and speak out about his sexuality in excerpts of biography, “An Unsuitable Boy” co-authored by Poonam Saxena, a few months back. Leaving hints to his much-discussed sexual orientation, Karan Johar wrote in the book: "Everybody knows what my sexual orientation is. I don't need to scream it out. If I need to spell it out, I won't only because I live in a country where I could possibly be jailed for saying this." He added, "The reason I don't say it out aloud is simply that I don't want to be dealing with the FIRs. I'm very sorry. I have a job, I have a commitment to my company, to my people who work for me; there are over a hundred people that I'm answerable to. I'm not going to sit in the courts because of ridiculous, completely bigoted individuals who have no education, no intelligence." In a recent event, the 46 years old director opened up about the issues again, saying: "I have never expressed my sexual orientation in those many words. I have insinuated a lot and have said what I wanted to say in my book." "I will never say that I am embarrassed or ashamed to say it. I am very proud of who I am and who I will always be. Whatever I have written in the book is the truth and I stand by every word of it," Johar added. On the pile of numerous trolls surfacing in social media platforms to mock his sexuality, the “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” director said that the comments used to make him angry initially but now he feels "amused and just smile when people make such comments".
